Another unique drama in the battle between Scotland and England! The Scotsmen were a minute away from taking the three points against The Three Lions, but Harry Kane found the net in the 3rd minute of the added time. The match eventually finished with a 2-2 draw.
There were lots of goal-scoring chances during the whole game, but all the four goals were scored in the last 20 minutes of the match. Both goalkeepers were the key players until the 70th minute. Even though there wasn’t a goal in the first 70 minutes of the match – it was faraway from boring! Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain opened the score for England. The Arsenal player showed good individual skills and found the net with a shot from inside the box. However, Scotland didn’t give up. Leigh Griffiths became the hero for the hosts. The Celtic forward scored twice from a free-kick to turn things around for Scotland (87′ and 90′). The hosts couldn’t resist the pressure from their opponent in the third minute of the added time, when Harry Kane put the ball into the net.
Slovakia and Slovenia recorded victories in their matches, which means that England’s participation in the World Cup is faraway from sure. The Three Lions are lying in the first place with 14 points after 6 games, but the second-placed Slovakia are with 12 points! Slovenia have won 11 points, while Scotland are in 4th place (8 points).
The Englishmen will hardly miss the chance to qualify for The World Cup in 2018. They are to visit Malta in the next round, which means almost sure 3 points. Then, the Gareth Southgate’s players will host Slovakia and Slovenia, before the final round’s match against Lithuania. The situation for Scotland is similar, as they will play the same opponents, but Scotland mustn’t drop any more points. Otherwise, they will omit another big international tournament.
