Real Madrid won their 12th Champions League title! Los Blancos beat 4-1 Juventus in the final game in Cardiff. The Zinedine Zidane’s players won the match absolutely deservedly, totally outplaying their opponent.
That was the second final between these two teams in the competition. The first one was again won by Real Madrid in 1998. Los Blancos won it 1-0 with the only goal, scored by Predrag Mijatovic in the second half. This time, the Spaniards were even more persuasive. Cristiano Ronaldo opened the score with a first-time shot from inside the box in the 20th minute after an assist by Daniel Carvajal. Then, Juve managed to equalize. Mario Mandzukic scored with bicycle kick after a header pass by Gonzalo Higuain.
Then, after the break, Real Madrid started to play much more better and scored 3 more goals. Firstly, the Brazilian defensive midfielder Casemiro scored a magnificent goal from a long distance in the 61st minute. That goal was crucial for the outcome, as Juventus started to play more offensively. Just 3 minutes later, Cristiano Ronaldo scored his second of the night, giving Buffon no chance to react. 7 minutes before the end of the game, the referee Felix Brych sent Juan Cuadrado off, which totally decided the game. Then, the substitution Marco Asensio also put the ball into the net in the last minute, to fix the final score – 4-1 in Real Madrid’s favour.
Los Blancos won The Champions League in two consecutive campaigns. They won the last year’s final against Atletico Madrid after penalty shootout. However, Cristiano Ronaldo became the only player to score in 3 final games of the competition. That was his 4th title! The Portuguese forward has now scored 600 senior goals, including his 71 goals for the national team of Portugal.
In conclusion, Real Madrid proved they are the best team in Europe at the moment. Los Blancos managed to win the title in La Liga for the first time since 2012! That was their 33rd title of Spain. Since the rename of The European Cup to The Champions League (1992) there was no team to win the competition in 2 consecutive season. Well, Real Madrid finally did it – that makes them the greatest club in Europe.
