The legend of the Dutch football – Danny Blind was sacked from the position of Holland’s national team manager. The Holland football federation took the decision after the unpersuasive performance by the team. The ex-Ajax defender spent almost 2 years as a manager of the Dutch international team, but couldn’t impress with his coaching abilities.
Holland played 18 matches with Blind in charge, but won only 8, lost 7 and finished with a draw on 3 occasions. His last game was against Bulgaria in a World Cup qualifier a couple of days ago. Holland lost 0-2 in Sofia and almost lost their chance to take part in the biggest international football tournament.
As you remember, Holland couldn’t qualify for The Euro 2016 a year ago, leaving in the 4th position of their group with only 13 points won from 10 games. Now, The Flying Dutchmen started the qualifying campaign better, recording 2 victories, a draw and a defeat in the first 4 matches of Group A. However, the performance against Bulgaria was more than awful!
The Bulgarians totally outplayed the Dutchmen. Spas Delev scored his first goals for the national team to secure the three points for his nation. Even though the stars like Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder took part in the game, they couldn’t show anything against the strong Bulgarian defence. Moreover, the Sporting Lisbon’s goal-scoring machine Bas Dost, who has scored 24 goals in 23 league matches this season, couldn’t do anything to be remembered with.
The football analyzers have criticized a lot Danny Blind for his choice of a central defender. The legend decided to play the 17-year-old Ajax player Matthijs de Ligt, who made two crucial errors in defence to allow Delev score twice. Blind realized he had made a mistake and subbed him off at the halftime, but it was too late.
In conclusion, Holland are now lying in 4th position in Group A with just 7 points won after 5 games. In comparison, France are unbeaten with 13 points at the top of the table, while Sweden is second with 10 p. and Bulgaria – third with 9 points.
