La Roja won the semi-final match against Portugal and qualified for the final in The Confederations Cup 2017! The Chileans finished in second position of their group B, which meant they will play the Fernando Santos’ players in the semi-finals, but the Juan Antonio Pizzi’s men showed a great team spirit and eliminated the European champions from the competition.
The Portuguese players started better, pressing the opponent deeply. A few minutes from the beginning of the game Cristiano Ronaldo made a beautiful pass to his teammate Andre Silva, but the forward made a disappointing miss from several metres. Eduardo Vargas of Chile also found himself one on one with Rui Patricio, but the goalkeeper managed to keep his sheet clean.
The second half of the game was very boring, as the team of Chile had more possession of the ball, but none of the teams created good goal-scoring chances. Ronaldo was very close to score a goal, but his shot in the 75th minute deflected from a defender’s leg and went inches wide.
Portugal’s and Chile’s players looked too tired in the extra time of the game and kept playing slowly. However, in the very end of the game Arturo Vidal hit the post from outside the box and then Rodriguez tried to tap in the ball, but he also hit the woodwork, which preserved the Portugal’s ambitions for the final.
Claudio Bravo was the big hero for Chile. The goalkeeper of Manchester City saved 3 shots from the penalty spot, which secured the comfortable 3-0 victory for the Chileans after penalties. One the other hand, none of the Chile’s players missed a penalty. So, this will be Chile’s third final from a big international competition within the last 3 years! Chile won Copa America twice in a row (2015 and 2016) and now the Juan Antonio Pizzi’s men will try to add another prestigious trophy to their showcase.
