Barcelona humiliated Valencia in the first semi-final of the Copa del Rey. Los Blaugranas smashed 7-0 their opponent. All the goals were scored by Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi. The Uruguayan scored 4 in Valencia’s net, while the Argentinian finished with a hat-trick. In fact, the result could have been more impressive if Neymar had scored his chance from the penalty spot.
The main reason for the humiliating result is the Shkodran Mustafi’s red card at the end of the first half, which led to the penalty, missed by Brazilian star Neymar.
The failure of Valencia will surely lead to the sack of the manager Gary Neville. Under his leadership, Valencia haven’t recorded a single victory in Primera Division and The Bats are lying in the 12th place in the standings. It is now clear that The Bats won’t reach the final of the cup, which was their chance for saving the season.
Barcelona are on a run of 27 matches unbeaten in all competitions. Luis Enrique’s players lost for the last time to Sevilla 1-2 in October.
The home side pressured its visitors from the very beginning of the game. Barcelona needed 7 minutes to go in front. Neymar made a great assist to Luis Suarez, who easily found the net 1-0. The Uruguayan doubled the score just five minutes later.
Barcelona kept making a great show for the spectators at Camp Nou. The minute was 29th and Iniesta passed to Neymar, who made a great back heel pass. Suarez missed the ball to Messi, who calmly found the net.
The lack of confidence in Valencia’s players, made them only defending and looking forward to the final whistle. After the fast three goals Lionel Messi hit the bar. Then, in the 42nd minute Mustafi made a foul against Messi in the box and the referee showed him a red card, which was the most crucial moment in the match.
Barcelona’s show continued during the second half of the game. In the 59th minute Luis Suarez found Messi in the box with a brilliant back heel pass and the Argentinian magician went through two defenders to make himself a shooting space. The rest was easy and the result was increased to 4-0.
Several minutes after his second goal of the game, Messi managed to score his hat-trick. That was his 37th in his brilliant career. But that was not all! Suarez found the net again 7 minutes to go. A great cross by Adriano Correia and an excellent header by Suarez 6-0. But that was not enough for the Uruguayan forward. In the 88th minute he received a great pass from Arda and scored for 7-0.
