Villarreal C.F. was founded on 10th March 1923, “in order to promote all sports, and specifically soccer”, as was specified in its founding letter. The chemist José Calduch Almela, as President; the bank employee José Martínez Aguilar, as Secretary, the post administrator Carlos Calatayud Jordá, as Treasurer, and members Juan Nebot, Alfonso Saera, Manuel Calduch, Pascual Arrufat Catalá, Vicente Cabedo Meseguer and Manuel Amorós Fortuño, formed the first board of directors.
